It’s Summer!

This post is an article of mixed feelings and probably one of the shortest ever, and if you follow me on Facebook, you probably already know why.

I’m a little behind with what I’ve already done this year, so I’m going to add it into the HIGHS!

Read on.

I haven’t yet written about it here, but if you follow me on Twitter, you’re usually one of the first to know!

So go on then.

And Brexit has been taking all my attention too.

In fact, I was on TV, on the radio & in the newspaper.

Yep!

The British Berliner is a well-known British-German expert when it comes to the British Monarchy, British Politics and British expat issues in Germany, and of course a popular well-known British person who travels!

I was on Radio One (Radio Eins) too.

Here’s what I’ve been up to all year!

PLANS FOR SUMMER

It’s Summer! June 2019 Highs & Lows

This summer I’ll be travelling to Italy, Georgia, Poland & England!

ITALY:

Sardinia; Sardegna; the island of Sardinia; island; Italy; Italian; Europe; travel
I’ve never been to Sardinia before, but it should be fun!

I’ve been to Italy about a million times and Italy and I are una canzone d’amore!

My favourite part of Italy is Tuscany, but we’re not going there this time, we’re going to an island.

The island of Sardinia.

I’m not big on hot beaches, but sometimes, you’ve got to get out of your comfort zone, and for me, it’s a very hot beach rather than a windy rainy one!

I’ve never been to Sardinia before, but it should be fun!

GEORGIA:

This vegetarian cafe is in Georgia, Europe. Not Georgia – the American state – in the USA!

When I first heard mention of Georgia, I thought it was Georgia  – the American state – in the USA.

But it isn’t.

It’s Georgia.

A country in the Caucasus.

A country from the former USSR.

In Europe!

I’m going to be there as a guest of the city of Tbilisi.

In fact, I do believe that even though Tbilisi will never ever beat Berlin in terms of trend and fashion.

Ha! Ha! Ha!

No!!

Georgia is going to be the place to be in 2019/2020.

More about that in the weeks to come!

POLAND:

Poland needs absolutely no introduction as I’ve written extensively about it many times before!

In fact, as far as Poland is concerned, I’m a bit of a notorious star!

And why pray?

Because of an article that I wrote all of five (5) years ago!

And the title of said piece: Going to Poland: 10 reasons not to go!

I rarely talk about intimate members of my family, but my dad passed away last Saturday.

It’s been most upsetting.

He was a man who was born into wealth and privilege but chose to live a gentle life.

He was quiet but allowed us all to choose what was best for us, rather than the other way around.

Most importantly of all, he loved running and was always in one marathon or the other. In fact, growing up, he was kind enough to let all his children win, whenever we ran against him!

I’ve always had my daddy even as an adult and a parent myself.
It feels strange.

I don’t have a dad anymore!

He was 77 years old and is survived by his children & second wife of 40+ years.

Ode to my father; marathon, running, run
To protect the privacy of my family, this photograph is not him, but an ode and representation of my father.

  1. Victoria, I am so sorry to hear about your dad passing. I have lost my mother in 2001 and still miss her dreadfully. It takes a long time to process and accept such a loss, eventually it gets a little bit easier. Surrounding yourself with family and friends is a great comfort. Sounds like you have great plans for the summer. Enjoy 🙂

    1. Thank you so much Gilda.
You’re awfully kind. It’s quite raw at the moment but as you say, time will make things a little better.

I’m so glad for the life I live and the family & friends I have making each day brighter.

  3. Victoria,

I echo your pain, I lost my Father right before Thanksgiving and to say that it is a surreal feeling is an understatement.

It is like something inside of me died and keeping busy has been my saving grace, I write to keep from crying and I cry when I write.

My prayers are yours as we both adjust to being part of the unenviable fraternity.

    Blessings and grace!

    1. I’m sorry for your loss Shun. That must have been awful especially at a time when family is most expected to be together.

It’s always a shock when a loved one passes away no matter how old , we, or they, are.

Thank you for your kind words.

    1. Thank you so much NN!
My dad was lovely and very kind. I hope I inherited some of those traits. The kindness part at least! 🤣

I’m hoping to have as good a summer as I possibly can, in order to use the time with family.

‘Very glad that you like my writing. Thank you! 😀
